The short version. We send service messages about learning, attendance, safety, account security and billing. Text (SMS) and WhatsApp messages are off until you turn them on and give us your number. They never contain a child’s name, notes or the content of a message. We do not send marketing text messages. Reply STOP to a text at any time, or switch a channel off in Settings. Message and data rates may apply.
These Messaging Terms are part of our Terms of Service and apply to the messages Shams AI (“we”) sends or arranges through the Service: in-app notices, email, web and mobile push notifications, text messages (SMS) and WhatsApp messages. They work together with our Privacy Policy.
If you choose, we send text or WhatsApp messages to the mobile number you give us about things such as: unread chat messages, weekly progress summaries, attendance and absence notices, behaviour or student-note notices where your school has allowed them, school announcements, payment reminders, exam and test notices, study reminders for a child (to the child’s parent), and sign-in verification codes. Which messages you receive depends on the notification types you switch on and on your school’s settings.
A text or WhatsApp message contains who it is from, a short fixed phrase describing the type of notice, and a link to the Service. To protect children, messages never include a child’s name, a note, a grade or the text of a message; you sign in to read the details. Students are never sent text or WhatsApp messages. We do not send promotional or marketing text messages.
Message frequency varies with the notification types you choose, your school’s activity and, for sign-in codes, your sign-in attempts. Notices are grouped where we can, and “quiet hours” you set hold non-urgent messages until later. If you want fewer messages, reduce the notification types you have switched on.
Opting out of text messages does not stop service messages we are required to send by email or in-app, and we may still send a single message to confirm your opt-out.
We do not charge you to receive messages, but your mobile carrier’s message and data rates may apply. Delivery is not guaranteed: carriers, WhatsApp, device settings and network conditions can delay or block messages, and carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. WhatsApp messages are also subject to WhatsApp’s and Meta’s terms; to start a conversation outside WhatsApp’s 24-hour window we use pre-approved message templates. Text and WhatsApp may not be available in all countries or on all carriers.
We use your number to send the messages you choose, to send sign-in codes and to protect your account. We do not sell it or share it with third parties for their marketing. It is shared only with our messaging providers (listed in the Privacy Policy) to send the messages, and with others only as the Privacy Policy describes. Information about the use of mobile numbers for text-message opt-in is not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
If you allow notifications in your browser or on your device, we send web or mobile push notifications. They are off until you allow them and again choose types in Settings. To deliver them, your browser or device gives us a device address, and notices pass through your browser or platform vendor’s push service. A child’s own device receives push notifications only where the school allows it and a parent has chosen to allow it (a parent’s “not allowed” choice always wins). You can turn off push in Settings, or in your browser or device settings, and you can set quiet hours. Push content is kept short and does not include sensitive details.
Schools, teachers and parents can send announcements, notices and messages through the Service. They are responsible for the content they send and for having a lawful basis to contact the recipients. We deliver those messages according to each recipient’s notification choices, but we do not control or endorse their content. A school that uses the messaging features must respect its recipients’ opt-outs and must not use them for marketing unrelated to the school’s educational purpose.
We may change these Messaging Terms as described in the Terms of Service; if a change affects text or WhatsApp messages, we will tell you and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again. Questions or opt-out problems: [email protected].
